The Bloomington Old Town Hall was built in 1892. It was moved twenty feet when a basement was added in the 1930s. The Old Town Hall was an important meeting site for the fledgling town of Bloomington until the 1960s when larger facilities were built nearby. It is currently a historical museum occupied by the Bloomington Historical Society. While the Old Town Hall is not currently designated as a Historic Landmark, that is a future goal of the tenant. Kodet Architectural Group is using the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standard’s for Rehabilitation as a guideline for all work done to help achieve that goal.
The first phase of the project is underway and primarily includes the site and the exterior of the building with some minimal work on the interior (see rendering above). The greater portion of the interior rehabilitation will occur during Phase II and include meeting ADA and local code requirements in addition to the aesthetic restoration of the interior.
