Kodet Architectural Group prepared the pre-design document for the North Hennepin Community College General Education Facility which addressed the needs of the educational departments, as well as the direction of NHCC under its master plan. The existing science facility will house the math, social science, and English departments. In addition, the program included an assessment of this existing building including its interior and exterior conditions, mechanical and electrical systems, and accessibility compliance.

Kodet Architectural Group’s main task was to program the General Education space with the input of NHCC faculty, staff, and students. Surveys taken of the faculty highlighted the concerns of these major stakeholders.

Following the pre-design, Kodet worked with the College to complete the schematic design of the building, putting ideas that were discovered during programming into a physical form. Reinforcing the campus plan while creating a unique character for the General Education program was the key design intent. The interior layout focused on making an improved learning environment for staff and students.
