Named after a local activist, the Nellie Stone Johnson School helped to accommodate the increase in student population in North Minneapolis. Kodet Architectural Group was engaged by Minneapolis Public Schools to design the new K-8 school in the heart of the Hawthorne Community. Community involvement during the planning phase reinforced the need for after-hours access to the gyms, multipurpose space, computer lab, and other areas while the rest of the building is secured.
