Church of St. William

Fridley, MN

This remodeling project responded to a desire from the Church congregation to make the existing building more welcoming and inviting.  The existing Chapel was also in need of updating.  Over the years, the music had become a more important part of the liturgy, and an organ and speaker cabinets needed to be incorporated.

Working closely with the building committee, Kodet Architectural Group developed a design approach that introduced warmth and openness throughout the worship space.   A wood and glass wall on either side of the altar expressed a more human scale to the space. This wall formed the backdrop to an expanded choir area and provided visibility to the refurbished Chapel.

The existing Gathering Space was made into a place of fellowship by including a wood wainscot, a stone fireplace, and built-in benches.  The Chapel was redesigned to be visible to the community, as well as part of the worship experience during mass.  An existing tabernacle, built by a parishioner, was relocated to the wall adjacent the Worship space.  New artwork and stained glass are incorporated into the Chapel below the added clerestory.
