Minneapolis Fire Station #6

Minneapolis, MN

This 20,000 s.f. fire station for the City of Minneapolis is a state-of-the-art facility in several respects, not least of which is efficient and quick access to fire equipment.

The design minimizes the building’s energy demands and is organized to lessen the impact of environmental conditions. Additional measures, such as super-insulation, passive solar strategies, and a Trombe wall – a double glass wall with a wide air space in between – were combined to gain maximum energy efficiency. The roof has an R-value over 100.
